Philosophy and Mission

                                                              Philosophy

The Community School of Davidson’s K-12 philosophy follows the ideals of the "Basic School" concept originated by Dr. Ernest L. Boyer who emphasized four educational priorities:

  • The School as Community
  • A Curriculum with Coherence
  • A Climate for Learning
  • A Commitment to Character.

These building blocks have been the foundational framework for the Community School of Davidson's elementary and middle schools and will continue to be purposefully bred in our high school. In creating the best possible school environment for our students it is our ultimate goal to inspire lifelong learners who draw upon their CSD experiences in all their future endeavors.

                                                             Mission

The Community School of Davidson High School provides a unique learning environment through
evidence-based practices. Our mission is to:

  • Ensure that all learning and growth is based on the strength and integrity of relationships
  • Create intrinsically motivated students through authentic teaching methodologies, relevant integrated curricula and meaningful community engagement
  • Nurture the "whole" person through the context of a rich academic climate by pairing them with an advisor who serves as their personal advocate, cheerleader and navigator
  • Evaluate student progress and college readiness through innovative and comprehensive methods including development of an Individualized Learning Plan and a Portfolio of Achievement to showcase student interests, hard work and preparation for college and beyond
  • Empower students to create and maintain a school atmosphere that is safe, uplifting, inclusive and attentive to individual and group education
  • Offer an exceptional education opportunity accessible to all families that emphasizes the importance of diversity and individuality in our school and in our local and global community.
