Science Enrichment

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade takes science to a new level with weekly learning and hands-on interactive activities and experiments.  Depending upon the unit of study, hypothesis are created and tested.  Areas of study include electricity and magnetism, rocks and minerals, food energy and nutrition, and animal adaptations and their behavior.  The science teacher works closely with the classroom teachers to enhance science with vocabulary review, non-fiction reading passages, and science related literature.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade science continues the pattern of learning with hands-on interactive activities and experiments.  We kick off the year by exploring the interaction of plants and animals.  This is highlighted by an in-depth, environmental education experience at the Barrier Island in South Carolina in September.  Three other units of study include weather, landforms, and forces and motion.  Classroom teachers and the science teacher work closely to help reinforce science concepts through vocabulary study, non-fiction reading passages, games, activities, and science related literature.  An end of grade science test is administered to 5th grade students in May.
