We are off to an incredible start this year in 6th grade band. I was very impressed with the student's preparedness last week for their playing test! Please remind the students that the five notes they have learned MUST be memorized. Some are still struggling with the memorization part. The top of page 6 in their books shows all five notes. Spending 5 minutes each night studying them will certainly do the trick!
They are working very hard in class and it shows. Initially, home practice was minimal due to the lack of muscle development. Now that they have begun to work the muscles used in playing their respective instruments, practice time at home should increase to a minimum of 2 hours per week. I strongly encourage you download SmartMusic on the cd/dvd that comes with your student's book. The program highlights mistakes that the player makes, giving them instant feedback, and it really makes practicing more fun!
