Reading tools
The ability to read and comprehend is a skill that will improve with practice.  Our 7th grade students are expected to read 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week, at the minimum.  This reading can be silent or out loud to younger siblings or parents.  Selections can include novels, biographies, newspapers, magazines, or even articles from the disciplines of Science and Social Studies. As a student reads on a daily basis for a set amount of time each day, he will develop reading stamina. Stamina is needed as students move into more advanced classes and as they are exposed to a wider variety of texts.  Starting to build stamina with free-read choices will greatly prepare your child for his later educational years. Please help your child by modeling reading yourself.  Another great way to engage your child in the reading process is to read aloud during a set "family night."  This is time well spent and is also a wonderful memory maker!  Just keep reading, just keep reading, just keep reading.......
