Crafty Arts
Tuesday/Thursday
Period 5 12:30-1:20
Teacher – Jessie Perkins
Parent Volunteer – Laura Altshuler
Welcome to the CSD high school art room! This craft based class is a year long elective, designed to give students experience with a variety of different processes and materials. The curriculum will include experiences with:
Jewelry Making
Fusing
Glass Work
Leather Work
Fabric Art
Clay
As craft materials can be very expensive, students will participate in a school wide “craft shop” where we will sell some of our creations to offset costs. We plan to also participate in Christmas in Davidson.
Both Laura and I are passionate about working with students and working with these craft materials. Our first priority will be safety, as we will be using many different tools, using the kiln, and handling glass. This class will be exciting and fun, but unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.
Through the year students will be assessed and graded on projects, participation and effort. Craftsmanship will be a major factor in a student’s grade. Self-evaluations and class critiques will also play a roll in determining final grades.
Class Expectations:
- Come to class prepared and on time.
- During class discussions the speaker has the floor. Students should not talk when someone else is speaking.
- Respect- Please treat others’ beliefs, property, and persons with respect.
- State comments about other artist’s work in a positive manner, making suggestions with respect, and acknowledging individual styles.
