Independent Study - Music – (Instrumental)
Expectations
1. To play instrumental literature in diverse keys, tempi, meters, etc.
2. To play pieces written in appropriate ranges, and in doing so expanding student’s own range
3. To play a diverse selection of literature
4. To continue to apply reading and notation skills
5. To continue and evaluate musical experience
6. To use singing to support this study
7. To demonstrate appropriate technique
8. To work on legato, detached, natural slurs, etc.
9. To work on glissando technique
10. To work on improvisation of simple melodies
11. To practice and perfect the All-District solo with respect to the points listed above
12. To master a variety of scales and arpeggios
13. To practice sight-reading skills
14. To continue student’s expansion of musical vocabulary
15. To contribute to the band when needed, at the request of the band director

Playing Tests – Every two weeks, the student will perform an assigned selection of music from material learned.
Music Concepts – Student will learn music appreciation, theory and history to enhance his/her knowledge of music. Once a month, students will have a quiz to measure his/her ability to answer questions about music concepts material.
Community – Student is expected to be prepared daily, with his/ her own instruments and the music. The student’s grade will be based not only on their ability to perform the music, but also on their disposition to help others when needed: by being respectful to other student’s playing ability; by contributing with self-discipline during class; by being attentive to the teacher/conductor indications, and by their willingness to contribute to the community in the school and abroad.
